Summer BBQ

Despite intermittent rains throughout the day, the Woodstock Gun Club BBQ came off with guns and bows 'a blazin'!

By 10 am, members and guests were practicing at the archery range under the direction of Kevin Rice. At 11 am, Robert Deeley set up his biathlon range and was giving demos. Even a friendly game of horseshoes was underway. At the crack of noon, the Trap field became the venue of action. Gals, guys; experienced and beginner shooters of all ages shot close to ten strings of birds up until 2 pm. At which point, we learned that our BBQ providers' smoker was on the fritz. Undaunted, a quick trip to the South Woodstock store coupled with the generous abundance of side dishes and desserts saved the day. We raffled off 3 rifles, a compound bow and many boxes of ammo. Many thanks to John and Linda for spearheading the event and to all those who contributed. Great fun was had by all.

What a Night!

Kevin Rice put on an amazing demonstration of his archery skills. You should see this guy cluster his arrows in the bullseye at 30 yards. Andrew Staub faired pretty well in our first meet, taking second honors.

A large group showed up for trap, over 25 people in total. We might have to start earlier if this keeps up! Two new members joined, one from Reading, another from Austin, Texas. Unfortunately the trap machine malfunctioned, but luckily we were able to wheel up one of the Atlas portable launchers and make a go of it. Everybody got to shoot their fill and we went on until the sun was nearly set. Though the clays flew straight and high on the same course each launch, it was kind of fun to shoot and not have them flying all over the place. Jim Johnson shot a 23. Jim Fish gave him a run for his money.

The Board decided it was a good idea to create a sign-up clip board for members who were shooting at the range. Look for it on the clubhouse deck. Members attending organized events such as trap, archery meets and field clays need not sign in. But if you're shooting by yourself or with a small group, please register so we can know who's at the Club. It'll also help to see what type of shooting people are actually doing.

Bryan and Jon are working on fixing the pump, we hope to have water on call for the restrooms by the August 16th BBQ.

Don't forget field clays this Thursday. Dave will be running it. Meet at the range at 5:30pm
